OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM LT. GOVERNOR MOLLY GRAY ON 2021 BUDGET ADDRESS
Montpelier, Vt. — Lieutenant Governor Molly Gray today issued the following statement:
“Today, Governor Scott delivered his proposed 2021 budget to a Joint Assembly of the Vermont Legislature.
While we do not share all the same priorities or agree on the path to ensuring the economic wellbeing of Vermont families, we do agree on this: Vermont is in better economic shape because of the sacrifices and hard work of Vermonters throughout this pandemic.
We also agree on the fundamental truth and harsh reality that Vermont's workforce and tax base continue to decline posing a growing threat to our current and future economic stability.
From our greatest challenges come our greatest opportunities. Never before in our history have we been so well placed to partner with Vermont’s Congressional delegation to make strategic and necessary one-time investments in our economic infrastructure.
Highlighted today, and top among them, ensuring access to high-speed internet for all Vermonters, critical investments in workforce development and remote work initiatives, and much needed support for our Vermont State College system.
I share the Governor’s commitment to working across the aisle and with my Democratic colleagues in the Legislature to ensure we recover stronger from Covid-19.”
