NEWS: Lt. Governor Zuckerman issues statement on S.102, the Vermont Protect the Right to Organize (PRO) act

MONTPELIER, Vt: On Thursday, Vermont Lt. Governor David Zuckerman issued the following statement after S.102, the Vermont PRO act, passed pending approval in the State Senate by a vote of 23-7:

“All workers deserve the power to organize their workplace without pressured interference. Unions offer tremendous benefits. Currently, states with high unionization rates have higher average pay for their citizens. Unions have also led to better health benefits for employees. Unfortunately, union membership has decreased from 35% of working Americans in the 1950’s to only 11.3% today. This is largely due to federal and state laws and policies that make it more difficult for workers to unionize. During the same time frame, worker productivity has gone up by more than 400% while workers have not seen commensurate pay increases. The Vermont PRO act will help working Vermonters exercise their right to organize and negotiate fair pay and better working conditions.”
