NEWS: Lt. Governor David Zuckerman Releases Statement Following Veto Session

MONTPELIER, Vt: On Tuesday, Lt. Governor David Zuckerman released the following statement after adjournment of the legislature’s veto override session:

“Vermont legislators put a noble amount of work this session to craft comprehensive pieces of legislation on many crucial issues, including childcare. I am glad to see that, despite the objections from the Governor, Vermont families, children, caretakers, early childhood educators, and employers will soon see the positive impacts of this work. Our legislators have shown that they are on the side of the working families of our state by overriding the Governor’s veto of H.217.

“I am also happy that the Governor’s veto of the budget allowed the legislature to allocate funding to continue to provide shelter for some of the most vulnerable Vermonters. It is both morally right and fiscally prudent to keep people sheltered as we work to create more permanent solutions to end the housing crisis.

“In addition to childcare and the budget, the legislature overrode the Governor’s veto on three other bills. In Vermont’s history, there had only been 14 veto overrides. With these five overrides, the legislature has increased that number by more than 33%. The legislator’s votes reflect the will of the vast majority of Vermonters.”
