Healthy Living, Healthy Aging

March 11,2005

As Chair of the Governor’s Commission on Healthy Aging, I have made it a priority to assure that older Vermonters – today’s and tomorrow’s -- can enjoy a good quality of life, better financial security, healthier living and more affordable health care, with the blessing of independence, and the comfort of community.

Our commission's mandate is to prepare our state for the profound demographic changes that Vermont will face. These are challenges we will meet together -- in our families, in our communities, in our homes, in our workplaces, our hospitals, and our nursing homes.
These are also challenges that each one of us will face as an individual. We need to encourage one another to take individual responsibility for our own wellness, and to educate and encourage one another to exercise, to eat well, to stay socially connected, to volunteer, and to serve.
