Montpelier--Vermonters who know of individuals or organizations that deserve recognition for demonstrating the ideals of healthy aging have just one more week to nominate them for 2006 Healthy Aging Awards. The Governor’s Healthy Aging Commission, chaired by Dubie, sponsors this new awards program.

The deadline for nominations is September 15.

The Commission’s function is to improve the health and quality of life enjoyed by older Vermonters. “In Vermont,” says Dubie, “our seniors are a huge asset, to our families, as volunteers and as members of our workforce. Vermont seniors have contributed so much to our lives and our communities. These awards are a great way to celebrate their contributions and accomplishments.”

Awards to individuals will be given in the following categories: Vigor and Vitality; Love of Learning; Community Involvement; Bridging the Generations; and Against the Odds. Awards to organizations and individuals providing healthy aging services will also be given. Governor Jim Douglas will present the awards at a Statehouse ceremony.
