At 10:00 am Saturday, as many as 300 walkers, blowing whistles in unison, are expected to signal the start of the Vermont Lung Association’s “2004 Blow the Whistle on Asthma Walk”, to raise money for UVM’s Asthma Clinical Research Center and Vermont’s Champ Camp for kids with asthma.

Lt. Governor Brian Dubie will join the walkers in the 3-mile course, and read a proclamation by Governor Jim Douglas, declaring September 18 as “Blow The Whistle on Asthma Day”.

Dubie said, “I’m a strong supporter of the American Lung Association of Vermont, and their efforts to find a cure for asthma, and improve the quality of life for the more than 60,000 Vermont adults and children who suffer from asthma. I am also hopeful,” he went on to say, “that Vermonters will rally to the call on Saturday, September 18th and join their neighbors in the 4th annual Blow the Whistle on Asthma Walk in Burlington.”

Asthma is the country’s leading cause of missed school time due to chronic illness, and parents of children who suffer from asthma are never free from worry. Too many have witnessed the shocking tragedy of the loss of a child’s life. For some unknown reason, the number of people affected has grown over the last 20 years.

Lt. Governor Dubie joins the American Lung Association of Vermont in encouraging Vermonters to join in the walk, or to make a donation, online at http://www.lungusa2.org/vermont , or by sending a check payable to the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell Street, South Burlington VT 05403.
