NEWS: Lt. Governor Zuckerman’s Statement on the Passing of Dean Corren

MONTPELIER, Vt: On Thursday, Lt. Governor David Zuckerman released the following statement:

“On Tuesday night, I was notified that my old friend and political mentor Dean Corren had passed away suddenly from a significant cardiac event earlier that evening. He was just 67 years old.

“Dean was a vanguard of the Vermont Progressive movement. In 1992, he was the third member of the Progressive Party to win a seat in the legislature where he served as a State Representative for eight years. He was an outspoken advocate for and champion of issues ranging from universal healthcare to marriage equality as well as environmental issues and protecting consumers from deregulation of electric utilities. Prior to his legislative service, he was a Burlington Electric Department Commissioner and, as chair, he worked to move Burlington away from nuclear and fossil fuels and towards renewable energy.

“Dean has been a mentor for many Progressives who have run for office over the last several decades, including myself. He recruited me to run for office in 1994 and was my mentor, guide, dear friend, and a collaborator on many issues.

“Dean’s impact on Vermonters, on the Progressive movement, and on the people who were close with him will live on. He will be greatly missed.”
