Lt. Governor

"Everywhere I go -- small businesses, big businesses, moms and dads -- people are motivated for a change. For me job creation in Vermont is a priority. I am eager to accept your ideas and your help in the days and weeks that lie ahead. We can improve the climate and culture of this state to help to grow good jobs. We can work to improve our schools, colleges and our University of Vermont."

Why Vermont?

Telecommunications - Vermont's fiber optics technology and related state-of-the-art telecommunications capabilities are among the most advanced in the nation.

Workforce - Vermont is one of the leading states employing high-tech workers. With 52 of every 1,000 workers employed in the computer and electronics industry, the state ranks ninth in the nation. In addition, the state ranks sixth in the nation for Ph.D. scientists and engineers in the workforce.

Manufacturing - Husky Injection Molding Systems chose Vermont as the location for its second manufacturing facility after searching all over the United States. The company, which employs 1,200 people at its Bolton, Ontario headquarters, selected Vermont based on a long-term, strategic decision: attracting very high-caliber people is much easier with the quality of life Vermont offers.

Quality of Life - The state's Downtown Community Development Act, through state tax credits for rehabilitation expenditures, encourages reinvestment in downtown areas that can return important economic, community and quality of life benefits to all Vermonters.

Captive Insurance - Large manufacturing companies find it relatively simple to form captive insurance companies in Vermont, which is second only to Bermuda in playing host to the industry. Currently, more than 350 captive insurance companies call Vermont home, setting an example for further development of the financial services industry.

Market - 80 million people are located within a 500-mile radius of Vermont.
